a piece of Americana

Our 2011 Fourth of July celebration began early this year, on Friday, July 1st. Due to Julia's camping trip with Auntie Laura and Uncle Keith on the actual 4th (which I will write about in another post), we were going to miss the Morgantown fireworks. Now my personal belief is that fireworks are a once a year thing and I really and truly do all that I can to see them on this holiday. So in an effort to have fireworks I researched fireworks displays in the tri-county area and came across one with an excellent description and was actually in our county: The McCurdysville Community Fireworks. The on-line account said that there would be music, a bicycle parade for the children and fireworks. Upon calling we also learned that there would be a cook-out. Promplty upon Frank's arrival home we loaded up the car and headed out for McCurdysville. Inside the quaint community building we joined the community members who were selling hotdogs and hamburgers for $1 and enjoyed the songs being played by the local band who just happened to be a praise and worship band from a nearby church. After the meal the kids bounced in the bouncehouses outside and played with a bunny rabbit someone had brought to the event. When it was time, the children lined up on their decorated bicycles and paraded from the community building to the country church where everyone was to view the fireworks display. While the sun set over the field in the meadow beside the church the children caught fireflies until the first firework shot off into the sky . It seems to me that we experienced a little piece of Americana this Fourth of July.
